Purpose:

To provide support to the Compliance Director with Implementation and management of the environmental management system and reporting systems to ISO and DHSC standards/requirements

Responsibilities:

The post holder will be responsible for:


  • Implementation and management of the environmental management system and reporting systems to ISO and DHSC standards/requirements
  • Ensuring that EMS requirements are established, implemented and maintained in accordance with the ISO 14001 standard.
  • Ensuring that sufficient resources are allocated for the proper implementation of the environmental policy and the EMS.
  • Regular review the policy and the effectiveness of the EMS and ensure that the necessary changes are made.

To act as the Chairman of the EMS Committee and have responsibility and authority for:


  • Leading the EMS Committee to establish and implement the EMS according to ISO 14001 standard and monitoring the performance of the EMS.
  • Co-ordinating internal EMS audits to ensure the EMS has been properly implemented and maintained.
  • Handling and investigating nonconformities and ensure corrective and preventive action have been taken to mitigate any impacts caused
  • Reporting on the performance of the EMS to the top management for review and as a basis for improvement of the EMS.

The EMR, the DEMR, the EMS Committee and Management shall undertake the EMS management review annually to ensure management commitment and integration of the EMS with business strategies for its implementation and continual improvement.


  • Maintain compliance of the Environmental processes and documentation at the Laboratory to meet the requirements of the Regulators and the DHSC.
  • Drive continuous improvements in the Quality Management System (QMS)
  • Co-ordinate and lead the team to ensure that all aspects of the QMS & H&S Systems are maintained: Accident & Incident Reporting, Risk Assessments, Change Controls, CAPAs, NCs, Customer Complaints and all other Quality Records.
  • Act as Audit Lead for all Safety, Regulatory and Client audits.
  • Ensure that H&S and Quality KPIs are collected and reported to Site Management and DHSC on a monthly basis or as required.

Skill and Capability Requirements:

Essential:

ü  Significant experience within the management of Environmental Management systems and processes within an operational laboratory environment.

ü  Experience with ‘Ideagen Qpulse’ Quality Management System would be a preference

ü  Experience in leading and driving forward, establishing, and implementing new environmental management systems or re-design.

ü  Experience in liaising with internal and external stakeholders, including assessment bodies on all areas of quality and compliance.

ü  Experience in conducting audits and hosting external auditors.

ü  An understanding of how the sites procedures relate in the larger regulatory environment and an ability to place them in context

ü  An excellent awareness of ISO standards

ü  Experience working within a laboratory setting working to relevant ISO accreditation standards; ISO 14001, ISO9001.

ü  A creative thinker with the ability to solve complex problems, driving forward change in a fast-paced environment.

ü  Leadership and people management
