Homeless Prevention Officer

Homeless Prevention Officer based in Basingstoke.


Temp contract - to start asap!


We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Homeless Prevention Officer to join our supportive, dynamic and knowledgeable housing team.

The post will be for a minimum of one month to cover staff shortage, but is likely to be extended.

You will need to have proven experience of working for a local authority homeless team and be able to show: , Proven experience of providing high quality housing advice to homeless households in line with the Homeless Reduction Act 2017 (HRA) , Ability to tackle case load within agreed timescales , Ability to adhere to relevant policies, procedures, legislation case law and guidance , Ability to undertake initial triage of homeless approaches in line with the Housing Act 1996 (as amended) to provide immediate advice, check validity of notices, collate information and determine duties , Ability and experience of liaising with stakeholder agencies such as housing providers, and support providers , Ability to enquire into the circumstances of housing applicants, obtain and check documents, verify details and recognise risks and needs.

, Ability to undertake interviews both with the office and from home , Ability to take reasonable steps to prevent homelessness for any eligible applicant, at risk of homelessness within 56 days and to take reasonable steps to help applicants to secure suitable accommodation available for at least 6 months , Proven experience of using the Jigsaw homeless IT system , Proven experience and knowledge of welfare rights and associated legislation.

, Demonstrable communication skills and the ability to work closely with colleagues and other agencies.

The successful applicant will play a key role in working across both our Homelessness Advice and Social Inclusion teams and will maintain and build on existing relationships with wider partners.
