Locum Sonographer

Location: Sub-tropical Island, South Atlantic

Salary: £3,500 per month

Description: This the opportunity of a lifetime for an experienced Sonographer to work in a beautiful setting, located in a sub-tropical Island of the South Atlantic Ocean.

The radiography section has multiple imaging modalities including CT, Fluoroscopy and Ultrasound, with two full-time Radiographers and a part-time Assistant Practitioner; you would be the only Sonographer.

Maintaining up-to-date professional technical knowledge, you will participate in CPD events and contribute to Clinical Governance and Strategic activity.

Your role as a Sonographer will including the training of staff in several key areas and supporting the Assistant Radiographer with CPD as required.

You will of course seek distant telemedicine advice when appropriate.

Working as a Sonographer Much of your time will be devoted to teaching and professional development of nurses and students, producing and updating protocols and guidelines and participating in clinical and staff meetings.

You will share on-call cover arrangements for out-of-hours emergencies and offer radiographic support to the dental section when required.

Occasionally, a postmortem investigation might be required, and you will also provide a mammography service.

You will work with X-ray and ultrasound service delivery – including obstetric, gynae, general ultrasound, general radiography and theatre fluoroscopy and general ultrasound in paediatric patients, thyroid and vascular ultrasound.

Provision of a CT scanning service.  Occasionally, a post mortem investigation, usually a body CT scan, might be required.

This is a 3 month fixed-term contract

Person Specification:

  • Diploma College of Radiographers or BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography (or equivalent)Registration with the relevant regulatory body or local regulatory body
  • State Registered Radiographer with a current registration certificate
  • At least 2 years post qualification experience in ultrasound and general radiography including CT.
  • Post-graduate qualification in Mammography
  • Post-graduate qualification in Ultrasound
  • Experience in student assessment/training
  • Up-to–date with Continuing Professional Developmental (CPD) records;
  • Computer literate;
  • Knowledge and experience of working in an acute hospital setting
  • Good command of the English language.
