Cell Investigator - Police

Service Care Solutions are looking for a Cell Investigator to work with a local police force on a full-time, long-term contract in Wakefield.


Purpose:


Responsible for providing support to operational police officers through the processing of prisoners brought into custody suites, by conducting effective and ethical interviews into alleged offences.


Responsibilities:



  • Lead by example and behave in line with the Police Code of Ethics ensuring that the force values and behavioural expectations are clearly understood and considered by managers, officers and staff in their decision making and actions; reinforcing and influencing them through all interactions and processes.

  • Undertake the interviewing and initial file preparation process in relation to prisoners brought into custody to reduce the investigative burden on operational officers.



  • Maintain close liaison with solicitors, social workers or appropriate adults that may be representing the detainee to facilitate the efficient running of the custody process.

  • Interview prisoners using the PEACE Interview Model and in accordance with PACE Codes of Practice for use as evidence in court proceedings acting as divisional advisor in investigative interview techniques.



  • Prioritise the processing of those detainees identified as “Persistent” and “Prolific” offenders.

  • Highlight opportunities for intelligence gathering and for further offences to be taken into consideration to ensure successful outcomes in bringing offenders to justice.



  • Identify potential informants and refer to trained informant handlers.



  • Tutor and develop staff in relation to the processing and interviewing of prisoners to ensure effective performance results are achieved within relevant constraints.



  • Co-ordinate investigative matters in relation to the application for and the execution of powers to search premises, seize evidence appropriately and further arrest deadlines.


  • Requirements:



    • Basic knowledge in the use and application of computer systems and the extraction of information from databases
      · Thorough working knowledge of PEACE Model
      · Knowledge of Police Systems CIS,OIS and Viewdata
      · Previous experience of carrying out Investigatory interviews
      · Evidence tutoring & development of staff
      · Demonstrated ability for effective prisoner handling with identifiable results
      · Experience in preparation of case files
