Assistant Accountant - Police

Service Care Solutions are looking for an Assistant Account to work on a full-time, long-term contract in Wakefield.
This role will be based with a local police force.


Purpose:

To assist in the provision of accounting services to ensure effective management of
police resources within districts/departments, areas of regional and national
responsibility and across a range of centralised capabilities at Force level.



The main responsibilities of this role are:



  • Lead by example and behave in line with the Police Code of Ethics ensuring that the force values and behavioural expectations are clearly understood and considered by managers, officers and staff in their decision making and actions; reinforcing and influencing them through all interactions and processes.

  • Proactively manage the performance, attendance and wellbeing of police officers and police staff against the required standards to ensure they are dealt with and supported in accordance with the correct policies and procedures.


  • Assist in the preparation of Force budget by collation of information on a range of capabilities, areas of regional and national responsibility. Ensuring the most effective use of resources and to meet all Force and statutory deadlines.


  • Maintain, monitor and reconcile expenditure and income against defined budget heads so as to highlight necessary corrective action and to enable budget holders to make optimum use of devolved and delegated resources.

    Maintain and reconcile the Force's financial records to ensure the accuracy and validity of the data that underpins the organisation's accounts.


  • Maintain and update where applicable the financial system to ensure the integrity of the data held by the PCC and Force.

    Supporting development of financial systems in response to internal/ external changes.


  • Produce and complete a range of statutory and non-statutory financial returns, grant claims and performance indicators to meet agreed timescales and statutory requirements.

    Assist in the production od the annual financial accounts in accordance with the Code of Practice on on Local Authority Accounting within pre-determined timescales in order to meet all statutory requirements.

  • Undertake production of revenue and capital information ensuring that financial forecasts, devolved and delegated budgets, the outturn and closure of accounts comply with the devolution policy, corporate directives and objectives and financial regulations, instructions and recommended financial practice and force policy.


  • Expereince:



    • Holds an AAT or equivalent qualification

    • Significant post qualification experience and consistently demonstrates a high level of
      performance.

    • Experience of spreadsheets and using computerised financial packages. Essential

    • Detailed knowledge and experience of financial procedures, financial systems, cost centre structures and spend control

    • Experience of data extraction and reporting where applicable Essential

      This is a police-based role, so applicants will be subject to police security checks.


      It is advised that applicants have a clean DBS/CRB within the last 3 years.
