Directorate Manager For Cancer and Oncology

Calling all Directorate Managers in the NHS.

Our client in the NHS are looking for a directorate Manager in cancer and oncology to help out.


Hours: 37.5
Pay rate: £28.08-£32.75 PAYE (Based off experience)
Ongoing contract


Ensure the strategic planning, development and delivery of high quality cancer services.



  • Ensure the Trust has clear plans in place to achieve Cancer Targets.

  • Responsible for the operational information systems and processes for cancer waiting times, monitoring and reporting.

  • Responsible for the implementation of and compliance with the NHS Long Term Plan.

  • Work closely with the Cancer Alliance and be the Trust's day to day link between the Trust and the Alliance.

  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of internal and external key relationships with the Trusts major stakeholders, including service users, cancer alliance, primary care and clinical commissioning groups.

  • Be responsible for the Trust's Oncology Services including the SLA held with Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.

  • As part of the Cancer Services Triumvirate the post-holder is jointly accountable for the delivery of quality, safety, operational performance, budgetary management and staff morale for the Cancer/Oncology team.


  • MAIN DUTIES


    Performance Management and Data Quality


    Ensure the Trust has clear plans in place to achieve Cancer Targets.



  • Responsible for the operational information systems and processes for cancer waiting times, monitoring and reporting.

  • Adapts and improves information systems and processes to ensure performance data is accurately captured and reported both to senior managers, clinicians and external bodies.

  • Has responsibility for the production and dissemination of the weekly and monthly performance reports to inform directorates and tumour groups of current and predicted position.

  • Works with Directorate Managers, Deputy Directorate Managers, Cancer Nurse Specialists and Clinicians to ensure the national and local cancer agenda is being considered and implemented within Directorates.

  • Responsible for the Cancer Tracker and Data Clerks team and ensure patients are being tracked and managed effectively.

  • Responsible for ensuring the Trust has robust process in place for escalating patient pathways.

  • Ensure the Trust has systems in place to fulfil all external reporting requirements.

  • Liaises with other Trusts to ensure patients pathways which cross multiple Trusts are managed in line with national cancer targets.

  • Ensure breach analysis takes place and lessons learnt are fed back into Directorate's to inform service transformation.


  • Corporate Role


    With key clinicians and managers develop and implement the Trusts cancer strategy for all cancer services across the Trust.



  • Responsible for translating national and network policy and guidance into Trust Wide patient pathways and plans.

  • Ensure tumour sites are compliant with Quality Surveillance Programme (QSIS - Quality Surveillance Information System) and ensure the required self-assessment is annually completed..
