Home Improvement Technical Officer

A local authority based in Norfolk is looking for a Home Improvement Technical Officer to join their team.

This is a full time, permanent role and the successful candidate will have a full relevant trades/surveying qualification, experience with maintenance and repairs to properties, extensive experience with property inspections and ideally experience in a similar local authority or housing role.

The main purpose of the role is to provide design and technical expertise in relation to housing repairs, improvements and disabled adaptations and to oversee building works to ensure high quality and good value for money.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate the following;

NVQ Level 3 (City & Guilds) Trade Qualification or equivalent recognised competency

Experience of inspecting houses to identify defects or to ensure compliance with construction standards

Experience of drawing up detailed schedules and specifications for building works.

Experience of drawing plans using computer aided design software.

Experience of administering building contracts.

The main responsibilities associated with this role are as follows;

To survey and assess the homes of clients to determine their suitability for adaptation, repair and improvement taking into account recommendations by occupational therapists, other health professionals and the client's own requirements.

This includes carrying out assessments using the housing health and safety rating system (HHSRS) in accordance with the Housing Act 2004 and making recommendations for further action based on the level of risk.

Provide detailed advice and recommendations for proposed works ensuring that they meet legislative requirements, national guidance and the council's financial assistance policies.

To prepare detailed designs, schedules of work, specifications and tender documents for works ranging from small adaptations and repairs up to and including extensive whole-house renovations.

To prepare technical plans, elevations, schedules and tender documents for new-build extensions.

The client is looking to move quickly with appointing to this position and is offering an annual salary of £32,910 to £ £35,745 along with a very competitive benefits package.
