Environmental Services Manager

A Local Authority based in Tyne & Wear is looking for an Environmental Services Manager to join their team.


This is a full time, temporary position and the ideal candidate will hold a degree level or equivalent or relevant qualifications in horticulture, waste management or business management or have extensive experience of working in environmental services.


The purpose and responsibility of this role is to ensure City Centre environmental works are undertaken including but not limited to cleansing, waste collection, parks maintenance and winter maintenance.


The main responsibilities of the role are:


To represent the service at Area Committees and report on the development and implementation of Environmental Services.


To work with Area Committee, customers and partners to shape service delivery to meet local requirements.


To ensure the development of processes and to lead operations delivering all services in line with council priorities and objectives, as well as legislative and environmental requirements.


To manage service resources to ensure a value for money service is delivered, in line with Council standing orders and financial regulations.


To ensure the health and safety of employees and others, implementing safe systems of work, monitoring of inspection regimes and continuous review, identifying and managing associated risks, taking necessary actions and implementing revised procedures in accordance with corporate/directorate health and safety policy.


To co-ordinate service delivery with partners to maximise expediency and efficiency.


Requirements:


Degree level or equivalent or relevant qualifications in horticulture, waste management or business management or have extensive experience of working in environmental services.


Proven track record of achievement as a senior manager.


A proven track record of delivering outcomes through leading, motivating, managing and empowering teams.


Evidence of success in establishing a strong performance culture including effective performance measures, the evaluation of service quality and improving service delivery.


Substantial experience of all aspects of customer service.


Legislative and environmental requirements of the post.


Experience of successfully performing some of the areas of responsibility associated with this post (waste management/ recycling/winter maintenance/ grounds maintenance/street cleaning)


The client is looking to move quickly with this role and as such are offering between £21 - £23 p/hour Umbrella Ltd (approx.

£533 - £577 p/week NET after deductions) dependant on experience and qualifications.
