Family Intervention Worker

Service Care Solutions are working with Hertfordshire County Council and looking for a Family Intervention Worker.



Job Purpose


The purpose of this role is to manage a caseload of families with multiple and complex needs, to empower them to achieve better outcomes and therefore prevent escalation of problems, by providing a safe and effective service, which responds quickly and intensively to families' needs in accordance with the Intensive Families Support Team Programme.


Main Duties and Responsibilities



  • Manage a case load of families and apply the family intervention model to empower these families to change their behaviours, by taking on the role as Family Co-ordinator for the eligible Intensive Families Support Team and work with partner agencies and the family to meet this need 30%

  • Deliver 1-1 and group-based interventions to the families, in accordance with the strengths, risks and needs of all family members 35%

  • Model the assertive, authoritative and challenging approach to the work with families 10%

  • Act as a broker to access appropriate and often specialist resources to support the needs of the family members 10%

  • Assess and manage safeguarding practice for own cases including ensuring step up to social care or specialist services and step down to universal services is effectively achieved for families 5%

  • Ensure assessment processes, support planning and implementation are evidenced based, effective, conducted within operational time-scales and responsive to changing needs of all family members 5%


Essential Criteria


The Children's Workforce Development Council sets out the basic skills and knowledge needed by all whose work brings them into regular contact with children, young people and families and these are integral to this role:



  • Effective communication and engagement with children, young people and families

  • Child and young people development

  • Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the child

  • Supporting transitions

  • Multi-agency working

  • Sharing information
