PEP Coordinator

Service Care Solutions are currently recruiting on behalf of Knowsley Council for a PEP Coordinator Secondary Lead, this role is to take lead responsibility for young people in the Secondary age range in the Virtual School and co-ordinate, support and ensure that they realise they access and are engaged in good quality education.



The position is a 4 month contract initially to be reviewed for extension following this time and is to start in July.

To quality assure Personal Education Plans to improve the educational outcomes and experience of looked after children.


The Virtual School Team must be able to respond to the sudden and constantly changing needs of the young people it supports.

Staff must be flexible and willing to take the nature of the service into account when carrying out the accountabilities of the post.#

Duties and responsilities include:
Make necessary arrangements to ensure that all children and young people are in good schools/educational provision (ie support and manage school changes).



Provide professional guidance, advice support to social workers, teachers and any other relevant professionals in relation achieving the best educational outcomes for children and young people and provide challenge to schools, and professionals where this is not being achieved.

Provide advice, guidance and support processes in relation to children who have special educational needs and may need SEN support, or an EHCP plan.

Provide advice and guidance in relation the process and best practice in ensuring a child/young person has a good quality Personal Education Plan that robustly promotes their holistic educational needs.



Attend at least one PEP meeting a year for all children/young people within the cohort that they are responsible for.



Quality assure the PEP's in line with agreed processes and priorities.

Work directly with children and young people who are in need of additional intervention, or may have special educational needs; to promote their engagement in education, and/or access to the most appropriate provision.



Person specification:
Candidates should have:
A recognised qualification in education, youth, social work or a relevant similar degree
A good know
A good knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation and guidance for looked after children in Secondary, Post 16 and SEND and the relevance of this for provision, assessments and attainments.


Good communication skills and an ability to engage with children and young people build successful relationships with them; and be able to motivate and encourage them to have high aspirations.


A good knowledge and understanding of child development theories and the often complex needs of looked after children, given the impact of abuse, neglect and trauma on their learning, emotional wellbeing and mental health.
