Environmental Heath Officer

A Local Authority based in Greater Manchester is looking for a Public Safety and Protection Officer/Environmental Health Officer to join their Commercial & Trading Standards team.
This is a full time, temporary cover position for approximately 9-12 months, the ideal candidate will hold a relevant qualification such as a Diploma/BSc/MSc in Environmental Health, or NEBOSH Diploma, or equivalent with relevant experience.

The purpose of the role is to help protect the food supply chain and worker's health and safety within the Borough by carrying out inspections, enforcement and advisory work, investigating fatalities, accidents and complaints and taking food samples.



The Commercial & Trading Standards Team is responsible for the regulation and enforcement of a wide range of legislation including that relating to food hygiene and standards, workplace health and safety, infectious diseases, animal health and welfare, product safety, legal metrology, illicit tobacco, counterfeit products, unroadworthy vehicles and age restricted products.

You must have worked as an authorised officer under section 19 of the Health and Safety at Work etc.

Act 1974 and hold a relevant qualification such as a Diploma/BSc/MSc in Environmental Health, or NEBOSH Diploma, or equivalent with relevant experience.

You must be qualified and competent in accordance with the current Food Law Code of Practice and have recent experience working in food safety in a Local Authority.

Experience and Qualifications:

Experience in local authority food safety regulation and enforcement.
Where the post-holder is required to carry out duties for which there is a prescribed qualification, this will be specified.

Must be competent and qualified in accordance with the current Food Law Code of Practice.
Excellent judgement coupled with an extensive knowledge of a wide range of enforcement techniques and regulatory sanctions and their efficacy in practice.

The client is looking to move quickly with this role and as such are offering between £19 - £21 p/hour Umbrella Ltd (approx.

£480 - £533 p/week NET after deductions) dependant on experience and qualifications.
