Family Engagement Manager

Service Care Solutions are currently recruiting for a Family Engagement Manager to work at a Category B men's prison in North London.

Your role as a Family Engagement Manager will be to develop and maintain positive relationships between prisoners and their loved ones, with the aim of reducing the likelihood of prisoners reoffending through supporting and maintaining family contact.

This will include leading and delivering the family services in a prison establishment in line with the establishment's requirements, involving visitor centre services; play and children's services; a social enterprise refreshment/catering service; complex family casework and support for family group work intervention.

Report to: Head of Services Delivery and Development.


Reports: Deputy Head of Service Delivery and Development.



KEY TASKS, DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES OF ALL FAMILY ENGAGEMENT MANAGERS

Support to Prisoners and their families:
To lead and deliver a service that ensures prisoners, their children, carers and other relatives have access to appropriate advice, guidance, learning opportunities, care and support to better enable them to maintain or enhance positive relationships.

Visitor Centre services:
To manage the Visitors' Centre providing support for the visitors before and after visiting; ensuring the centre is open and staffed at the agreed times throughout the year, and that accurate and up-to-date information (in appropriate formats) about the prison, the assisted visits scheme and other relevant agencies is available to visitors.



Services for children:
To lead and deliver high quality services that provide a safe and welcoming place for the children of prisoners, taking in to account their needs and the difficulties they face; ensuring the service provides play opportunities in the Visitors' Centre, facilitated play sessions in the visit hall at the agreed times and agreed enrichment activities such as homework clubs, baby groups and children only visits.



Catering:
To manage the refreshment service with support from the Quality and Development Manager (Family Catering services) and through the line management of the Catering Team Leader, ensuring it provides food and drinks that take into account the dietary requirements and cultural needs of the families visiting the establishment at times agreed in [visitors centres/ visits hall].



Groupwork:
To oversee the recruitment of appropriate prisoners and families for Family Groupwork courses in support of complementary services; involving ensuring security approval has been given for the recruited prisoners, that rooms have been secured and support other arrangements to ensure each course is a success.

People Management:
To lead, by outstanding example, a dedicated Family Support team [comprising of paid staff, volunteers, student placements and [where agreed with the prison] prisoner Champions) in supporting prisoners and their families.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Knowledge and Education:
High level of numeracy and literacy.

Knowledge of the criminal justice system and an awareness of the impact of custody on prisoners and on their children and families.



Clear understanding of professional boundaries which will enable you and your team to work with prisoners and their families.



An awareness of the impact of custody on prisoners, and on children and families.

Experience:
Demonstrable ability to work with diverse group of staff and service users.



Experience of managing people and ideally experience of recruiting and supervising volunteers.

Experience of operational management

Experience of working in a prison setting with an awareness and understanding of the challenges it brings.



Skills & Abilities:
Ability to motivate and lead others, and offer pastoral support.



Good negotiation and advocacy skills.

This role is full time 37.5 hours per week.
