Salary: £85,000 per annum + expenses

Description: Orthopaedic Surgeon (3 month locum contract)

Job Specification: This the opportunity of a lifetime for an experienced Orthopaedic Surgeon to work for three months in a beautiful setting, located in a sub-tropical Island of the South Atlantic Ocean.

You will be responsible for orthopaedic and general medical duties to all island residents and visitors (in conjunction with other members of the medical team as appropriate) which includes being a member of the on-call rota to provide emergency out-of-hours care as required for general and orthopaedic duties.

As an Orthopaedic Surgeon you will be Working with the other Medical Officers to provide orthopaedic services, involving:

• Approximately one theatre list per week

• Providing appropriate pre- and post-operative care

• Providing 24-hour cover for orthopaedic emergencies

• Participating in on-call duties for general medical matters

The island’s population is around 4,500 and it has a typical small island economy with a high import dependency, a narrow economic base, a large public sector (around 920 staff), and significant outward labour migration.

St Helena receives UK Government financial assistance to support recurrent and capital expenditure as part of their obligation to ensure that the reasonable needs of the population are met.

Requirements:

• Full G.M.C registration

• Experience in Orthopaedic Surgery
