Company Overview:

An exciting position has arisen working for a ‘start-up’ company specialising in developing cloud/virtualisation software for the hosting industry.

They have more than 80 staff at offices in the US, Europe and Asia-Pacific, with the headquarters in London, UK.

In July 2011 they opened a new technology development office in Cambridge, UK to build the next generation cloud storage platform.
The storage platform is currently in Beta, with a full product launch anticipated in Q1 2012.

Responsibilities:

You'll be part of a dynamic team developing cutting edge cloud storage technology.

You'll work closely with team members on development, solving complex problems and contributing ideas that will help us build a great product.
As a start-up technology group our whole team contributes to new development, debugging and testing, and everyone is expected to learn everything about the system they're working on.

The team is currently comprised of knowledgeable Xen hypervisor and Linux kernel developers with substantial experience of commercial storage systems development.

Skills & Experience:

You should have:
A good degree in Computer Science or Maths and/or 5 years experience working on complex distributed systems projects.
Development knowledge and experience of Linux with understanding of the fundamentals of the OS
Demonstrable knowledge of distributed system theory and practice.
Good IP networking skills including TCP, UDP socket programming.
Storage IO knowledge and IO-intensive app development experience reading and writing to files and block devices.
A solid understanding of storage system RAID properties.
Ideal candidates may also have the following:
iSCSI knowledge.
File system internals knowledge.
Distributed File system development experience.
IP multicast development experience.
OS system virtualisation experience with Xen, KVM, Hyper-V and/or VMWare.

Project Details:

Integrated storage platform - involves work on Linux OS, python tool set and low level filesystem knowledge.
Remote PXE boot server project - involves Linux OS knowledge, linux sys admin script knowledge, building and modifying linux kernels.
